The winery Petrera Pasquale has always showed his gift for territory exploitation and its typical products, deeply believing in their absolute value.
With this spirit and against the general trend, in 1987 faced up to the first Primitivo vintage for bottling, with single grape-variety . In that period his Primitivo remained almost the sole vineyard in the country of Gioia del Colle, in consequence of savage explanations.
With the same spirit has committed itself for first to create a Consortium for the Tutelage of the Gioia del Colle D. O. C..
The idea, carried out on the third of February 2000, involved same others producers also, and drove to the creation of the "Consortium for the Tutelage and Valorisation of Gioia del Colle D. O. C Wines" that since 2003 boast the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry acknowledgement and nowadays is supported by more than fifty members among wine producers and viticulturers.
We have always believed that the affords to set off and improve a product can't exist without the support of a concrete commitment in research.
Our first experimental idea was based on bottled product conservation as time goes on. The result was that the best solution for bottles preservation, (made respecting our conditions and precautions), is the vertical conservation in a constant temperature and humidity premise, making a momentary and gentle bottles lying down for a few second, for every conservation year.
This thesis was bore out by a study about conservation of bottled wine with cork realized by the Research Institute, Department for Viticulture University of Geisenhaim - Germany.
Our cooperation with different research bodies are aimed at extreme improving our product quality.
In 1995 started the cooperation with the Experimental Institute for the Viticulture in Conegliano Veneto ( Treviso ) to compare our variety of vine Greco with others.
The results excluded the presence of two kinds of virosis in leaves that cause curling up and crumple, and negatively affect respectively the fruit ripening and germination.
From Greco "Spinomarino" buds were produced grafted vine shoots preserved in the Germoplasma Preservation Centre - Service for Farms Control of Ministry of Agricuture in Montelibretti (Roma).
In 2000 we joined to the research program realized by the Viticulture Institute in Turi (Bari) in cooperation with the seat of Conegliano, about clonal selection of vine Primitivo in national territory, directing towards the production of a particular clone called "Selected Primitivo".
In 2003 we began the cooperation with the University of Basilicata, Faculty of Agriculture, about the chemical characterization of D.O.C. and I.G.T. wine in the South of Italy and with the University of Lecce, National Research Centre, about the identification, characterization and selection of the yeasts contained in our Primitivo.
At present time we are starting the cooperation with the Research and Analysis Centre for Agriculture and Food "Panalisi" in Bari, holder of a research authorized by the Instruction, University and Research Ministry, about the different strategies to prevent contamination of wine by ocratoxin A, assisted by the Chemical Department - University "La Sapienza" in Rome and supervised by the Health Superior Institute.
Our present experimental engagement is also direct to the application of up-to-date techniques and technologies for production and transformation, joining them with our traditional methods refined by years of experience. We would like to enrich our production process with further impulses, to reach higher and higher quality standards and constantly aspire to perfection in the almost unexplored field of orderly wine-making of our Primitivo Gioia del Colle D.O.C. and the noble grape: Greco.
