Falstaff, an internationally recognized Austrian Wine Guide, awarded our Fatalone Gioia del Colle DOC Primitivo Riserva 2015 with a “Primitivo Trophy” as part of a special tasting of the excellent Primitivo wines in Puglia.  As in previous tastings, the wines were expertly evaluated by an international tasting panel. Our Fatalone Gioia del Colle DOC Primitivo Riserva 2015 was awarded a rating of 93 points for, among other qualities, its “bold acidity and a harmonious long finish”. We are specially proud to see our Fatalone Riserva in the list, as it’s one of the few organic primitivo wines that received this high rating and honor.

Slow Wine 2019

Our Fatalone organic and sustainable wines confirm their presence in the internationally renowned guide, Slow Wine. In particular, our Fatalone Gioia del Colle DOC Primitivo Riserva 2015 received the recognition of “Vino Slow”.

As stated on the Slow Wine website, “the SNAIL PRIZE is awarded to wineries whose values (high quality wines, originality, and respect for the land and environment) align with the Slow Food movement. Quality-price ratio is another factor that our editors consider.”

We are proud and honored to embody the Slow Wine characteristics.

HISTORIC VERTICAL TASTING CELEBRATING FATALONE’S 30TH ANNIVERSARY – NEW YORK, NOV 2 2018

We continue to celebrate! On Nov. 2nd, we held a second  (the first, in London) vertical tasting of our Fatalone Riserva in New York  City to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of our brand, Fatalone Organic Wines.  The event was held at Astor Center and was by invitation only. This event was also made possible with the help of Alice Feiring and our importers in New York. Ms. Feiring is an award-winning wine writer specializing in natural wines and editor of The Feiring Line, “The Natural Wine Newsletter”.

In a masterclass-style presentation, Pasquale Petrera,  Fatalone’s own 5th generation winemaker, poured 15 vintages of our Fatalone Gioia del Colle DOC Primitivo Riserva dating back to 1988. The tasting panel included local and international press, sommeliers and trade. Some of our invitees were: Alice Feiring  of “The Feiring Line”, Jim Sligh of “Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels”, Oscar Wolf of “Chambers St Wines”, Mike Colameco of “Real Food, PBS”, Tara Thomas of “Wine & Spirits Magazine”, Levi Dalton of “I’ll Drink To That Podcast”, Catherine Todd of “Dame Wine” and Lorena Ascencios of “Astor Wines”.

Raw Wine 2018, 4-5th November in New York City

For the first time this year, we presented our Fatalone Organic Wines at Raw Wine 2018 in New York City.  RAW WINE brings together “over 140 of the world’s best low-intervention organic / biodynamic/natural wine growers.” We introduced all of Fatalone wines: Gioia del Colle DOC Primitivo Riserva, Gioia del Colle DOC Primitivo, Puglia IGT Primitivo “Teres” e il nostro vino bianco, Puglia IGT Greco “Spinomarino”.

To be a part of Raw Wine, our wines had to pass a strict selection process. Thankfully, Raw Wine Fair’s entry requirements are in complete agreement with our own philosophy of producing organic wines, using only our own hand-picked grapes, low levels of sulphites, spontaneous fermentation and sustainable practices without sacrificing quality and taste.

We were particularly proud to have been the only winery representing Puglia in this wonderful event.

VINIBUONI D’ITALIA 2019

ViniBuoni d’Italia 2019 awarded our Gioia del Colle DOC Primitivo Riserva Fatalone 2015 four stars, the top score for this guide. We were also granted the “Golden Star,” given to excellent wines for their authenticity and those that best represent their territory.

Jancis Robinson Purple Pages: “Massaging Primitivo with music therapy” by Walter Speller, June 2018

thumbnail of Walter Speller on Jancis Robinson FataloneVerticalLondon2018On the 7th of March, we celebrated in London the 30th anniversary of the Fatalone brand. We held a vertical tasting with 15 vintages dating back to 1988 of our Fatalone Gioia del Colle DOC Primitivo Riserva. While our main focus remains on making an  organic, natural and sustainable wine, the event was of primary importance to us as we continue in our quest to affirm that Primitivo is also a wine that can age and it does so  gracefully.

That day we were honored with the presence of Mr. Walter Speller, an internationally renowned wine writer and critic. Mr. Speller is in charge of the Italian wine reviews for Jancis Robinson’s blog “Purple Pages,” an important reference for wine enthusiasts and critics worldwide.

In his article, “Massaging Primitivo with music therapy” published in June 2018, Mr. Speller magnificantly narrates the vertical tasting while adding some history of the Primitivo grape and wine in the region of Puglia. He reflects on our use of music therapy in the cellar and notes that “the idea is not as insane as it may sound.” In the end, he draws the following conclusion:

“Whatever the effect of sound waves, the 16 wines below more than convinced me of the ageing capacity of Primitivo as well as its complexity, provided it is in the right hands.”

We are thrilled with his final comment because in the end our Primitivo, made only with our own locally grown grapes, remains above all an authentic expression of our territory.

At the end of Mr. Speller’s article, you’ll find his detailed notes on each of the vintages we presented in London.

Wine Without Walls 2017 Fatalone Riserva 2011 & 2012

thumbnail of Wine_Without_Walls_Fatalone_ Riserva 2012-2011The “5 Star Wines” is a wine guide and contest organized during VinItaly to evaluate and award the best Italian wines in all of Italy.  Within this guide, you’ll find “Wine Without Walls,” a wine contest dedicated to selecting the best “natural” wines in Italy. In order to participate, wines have to be certified organic and, among other requirements, contain low levels of sulfites, less than 40mg.

Our Fatalone Gioia del Colle DOC Primitivo Riserva 2011 and 2012 were both winners. It’s empowering to see, not one, but two of our Riservas among the 17 best natural wines in all of Italy! We remain committed to producing excellent natural wines.

DECANTER MAGAZINE, FEB 2018, PRIMITIVO FATALONE 93 POINTS

thumbnail of Decanter_FEB_2018_FATALONEOur Fatalone Organic Wines have been featured in Decanter’s Magazine February 2018 issue along with other excellent Apulian wines in an article titled “Fighting a Dream Climate,” which addresses the Primitivo variety’s proliferation in such a seemingly unwelcoming climate.

“Fatalone works biodynamically, with an impressive carbon-neutral winery. Fans of Fatalone’s Primitivo can decide if they share Pasquale Petrera’s belief in music therapy (a Rudolf Steiner concept), but whatever tunes or pieces the botti are listening to must be having a positive effect, judging by the quality of the wines.”

Within the same piece, our Gioia del Colle DOC Primitivo Fatalone 2015 was picked for the list, “A taste of modern Puglia: Woolf’s 10 wines to try.” Our wine is described as “balanced and fresh” and a true testament to a wine that can “achieve greatness with no oak at all.”
